Our Wildlife
We have a family of kangaroos that comes to visit daily if you are at home. Should you wish to feed them, we recommend that you obtain either wild bird seed, or give cut up fruits and vegetables. Please refrain from feeding them bread as it can make them very ill. As a matter of interest, they seem to love cardboard, so don’t leave anything important outside at night if it is cardboard as it may have been nibbled in the morning. Also, remember that, although they look gentle, they are still wild creatures. We recommend that young children are supervised at all times when feeding the kangaroos.

We have many large black lizards that live in and around the home. They are very shy and will scatter if they hear you coming. Take a careful look in the wood pile by the side of the house. There are always two large black ones in there that are breeding.

Jack is our resident tree-frog that lives in the grevillea tree to the side of the house. He will periodically sit on the back of the flying lady as if he owns her! Don’t be surprised to see him when you arrive.

There are many honey eating birds that are best viewed from the deck area upstairs and if you mix up some sugar water they will come in for a drink if you’re quite still.

Surrounding Bush
We are very lucky that our house looks out into an uninterrupted tree canopy. We face onto the public open space and the natural bush land is fully preserved and untouched. We would ask that you respect this natural beauty and encourage children not to snap off the foliage from the grass trees surrounding the house. These trees take many years to grow to the lovely mature state that they are in and we would like all our guests to have the opportunity to enjoy them.

Take a walk around the island and see if you can spot any wild orchids. They are very small and delicate and quite a delight to behold.
